The Director of Operations is responsible for providing direct leadership to the Purchasing, Inventory Management, and Central Distribution Center operations.  The position will also provide strategic direction on distribution, logistics, transportation and safety activities for branch warehouse and kitchen and bath store operations.  The Director interfaces with stakeholders and collaborates with a variety of other functional areas in order to deliver program and company results that achieve business goals and objectives. This position is a part of the Senior Leadership Team and reports to the President.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Purchasing department and inventory management process
  • Direct the operations of the Central Distribution Center
  • Provide strategic guidance and metrics to branch warehouse and distribution center managers to achieve company objectives and meet customer expectations
  • Support all distribution activities to help coordinate and execute them to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency
  • Responsible for the administrative management of the Fleet and equipment (delivery vehicles, racking, forklifts, etc.) utilized in the Central Distribution Center and Branches
  • Key leader in ERP system integration
  • Direct the capital expenditure and asset redeployment activities
  • Provide recommendations on capital expenditure projects that support quality and cost improvements and objectives of the facilities.
  • Identification of underutilized or unused distribution assets (vehicles, racking or other tools and equipment).
  • Participate in facility reviews, cost control, health and safety, environmental requirements
  • Provide guidance to help branches maintain all facilities in a safe and productive state to ensure the health and safety of all employees and in order to achieve maximum productivity and in compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations
  • Contribute to the creation of an annual maintenance budget for all facilities
  • Monitor operation processes and performance metrics and suggest actions and best practices to correct financial, quality and delivery variances.
  • Suggest best practices for physical layout of facilities in order to achieve optimal efficiencies, effectiveness and safety
  • Create standard specifications and pricing for all delivery vehicles and warehouse equipment
  • Evaluate distribution projects including productivity, inventory, manpower and workflows
  • Drive strategies on product line supplier selection based on cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Develop metrics for supplier performance to ensure cost, quality and delivery performance supports company goals
  • Manage the supplier rebate and incentive programs to optimize the company’s financial returns and predictability
  • Build a dynamic, high performing team in the supply chain function to deliver best in class customer service and operational excellence
  • Other duties as assigned by the President

Qualifications

  • Senior leadership experience in a Supply Chain, Warehouse, Transportation and Logistics environment.
  • Multi-location, multi-state management responsibility.
  • Wholesale distribution experience strongly preferred.
  • Required experience in the purchasing and inventory management fields with large supply base and large SKU count environments.
  • Required experience within the transportation and warehousing industry to monitor the flow of goods and understand the complex systems of inventory, delivery times, costs, and personnel management.
  • Financial management experience including budgeting, cost estimates, and life cycle cost analysis.
    Solid presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff members, vendors, contractors, and engineers, on process and technical issues.
  • Ability to successfully function in a matrix/influence based leadership role providing guidance to branches and kitchen and bath stores on inventory, warehouse, transportation, logistics, and safety topics.
  • Competent computer knowledge and skills with the ability to learn First Supply LLC’s business system.
  • Ability to travel without restriction within the First Supply territory and to nationally to vendors, trade shows, vendor meetings (up to 50%)
  • Satisfactory score on the Wonderlic Personnel Test
  • Ability to read, speak, understand and write English
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure
  • Attendance on a regular and consistent basis
